NAHREP

(ongoing) NAHREP NYC is the New York chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals. Provided: Web design and development.

NAHREP came to Alex and I needing everything. I think I even whipped up some letterhead for them. Being a new chapter of a national organization, they were short on resources and Web expertise. So we needed to find them a solution that would be easy for them to manage. Oh, did I add that they wanted the site to be bilingual?

They needed a site that was easy to manage, would incorporate photo galleries, news, events listings, and could switch between English and Spanish.

We decided that simple was better, and I had been playing around with Wordpress on several other projects, including this blog. Wordpress is a blogging tool, but it also can serve as a basic content management system, plus the Wordpress community has created a slew of great plugins to enhance the program’s functionality.

Thsi project involved modification of the Wordpress editing interface to tailor it to the client’s needs, as well as creating the functionality for the bilingual site. While there were several great plugins available that were close to what we needed, we found ourselves writing custom functions in just about every case. The bilingual functionality required extensive modifications, but we were able to create this within the Wordpress plugin framework and not directly modify any core application code (meaning that the site will be easy to upgrade).
